director | cinematographer
Matt Oflas is a Filipino American filmmaker, proudly from the Bay Area, CA. Born in the Philippines, and having grown up in diverse places such as Tokyo and San Francisco, he has fostered a goal to translate this diversity onto the screen with authentic, vulnerable stories about identity and human connection.
Matt received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Film and Television Production at the University of Southern California’s School of Cinematic Arts. During his time at USC, he served as the President of the Asian Pacific Cinema Association, where he built a community of AAPI filmmakers and encouraged them to share their stories.
In his last semester at USC, Matt was selected as one of four directors for the program's prestigious CTPR 480 senior thesis class. The result was the short film "Clowning Time", his latest narrative directing work and a culmination of all the skills he learned during his time at school.
After graduating, Matt went on to spend six months in the Philippines, reconnecting with his family and roots, as well as backpacking around Southeast Asia. When he’s not working on film, Matt loves to play basketball, skateboard, eat KBBQ, and call his friends and family back home.
Most recently, Matt worked as a Post Production Intern for Wong Fu Productions.
